Why Safety Is Non Negotiable in Geostructural Construction

March 4, 2026

Safety is foundational to everything we do in geostructural construction. The nature of our work—operating heavy, rotating equipment, working in tight spaces, and performing installations near open excavations—creates inherent risks that must be actively managed every day. At FSGC, safety is not a box to check; it is a mindset, a process, and a commitment that shapes our culture and our performance in the field.

Understanding the Most Common Risks

Two of the most frequent safety concerns we encounter on our projects are pinch zones and open holes or fall hazards.

Pinch zones are the most common safety concern for us due to the type of equipment we use and the close coordination required between crews and machinery. Additionally, much of our work takes place adjacent to excavations, creating potential fall risks from open holes and exposed edges. Recognizing these hazards early allows us to implement controls before an incident can occur.

How FSGC Maintains a Strong Safety Culture

We take a structured and proactive approach to jobsite safety through established processes and consistent field practices. This includes:

  • Daily toolbox talks, which reinforce hazards specific to that day’s activities and encourage open communication among the crew.
  • Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures, ensuring that each task is evaluated step-by-step before work begins.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized shop and jobsite, reducing unnecessary trip, slip, and fall hazards.
  • Strict adherence to proper PPE usage, ensuring that all personnel are adequately protected at all times.
  • Heightened awareness around rotating equipment, which is our primary type of machinery, requiring clear communication, defined work zones, and disciplined positioning by all team members.

These measures collectively reinforce a culture where safety is expected, practiced, and continuously improved.

Current and Future Safety Enhancements

As our projects continue to involve work near open excavations, we are implementing additional safety controls to further reduce risk. These include:

  • Securing tie-off points where fall exposure exists
  • Installing coverings over open holes when possible
  • Placing cones and protective rebar caps over micropile locations to prevent falls and accidental strikes from equipment

Our Commitment

At FSGC, safety is embedded in our operations, not treated as an afterthought. By combining structured procedures, hands-on leadership, and continuous improvement, we create job sites where our people can perform their best work—safely and confidently.
